A quick lesson on greek mythology: a. Oedipus killed his father first, b. he didn't know he was sleeping with his mother until the end of the story. He ran away from home because he received a prophecy that he would kill his father and marry his mother, not knowing he was adopted.

That's a different story than I know (and can be found on the german wikipedia article). His father receives the prophecy and decides to leaf him to die in the wild. Through mercy of a soldier and a shepard he becomes the adoptive son of royal family that couldn't get an own child. After someone said to him he's adopted, he visits an oracle asking for the names of his parents. But instead of the nameshe gets the prophecy that he will kill his father and marry his mother. So he leafs his hometown, gets in fight with his real father on the journey and kills him. Then he reaches Theben, gets rid of the sphinx that's causing trouble for the city, as a reward he marries the widow queen (his real mother) and prohphecy fulfilled. That he killed his father and married his mother came out later when the city was again in trouble and to resolve it they had to find who killed the king prior to him and so the whole story was uncoverd.

Long story short: Sigmund Freud missused Oedipus name, so we think of him as a person who wanted to fuck his mother, but he actually didn't wanted to do this. So Bhaal29's comment is based on a great missunderstanding.

@Ancient-Alien almost correct. the father got the prophecy that his son would kill him and marry the mother. the king afraid of this prophecy sent the son out with a soldier to kill the son. the soldier took pity on the baby not knowing of the prophecy and brought him to a friends house to care and raise for the baby. eventually the king went mad and killed a lot of the civilians including the prince's adoptive family, leading the forgotten prince to take revenge on the mad king, take over as king, marry the queen (his own mother) and yada yada yada
