Generally speaking, if you’re focusing on the no-faced generic male character, you’re doing it wrong. Unless they have distinguishable features and a real personality, they’re essentially a cardboard cutout that the artist can stick a penis on to fuck the female MCs. The reason they’re kinda grody-lookin’ can vary.

Sometimes it’s a part of the work, like with the orc and elves subgenre, where the fact that the Orcs are so naturally considered repulsive and evil gives a sense of degeneracy and corruption to the beautiful, perfect elves being dirtied, raped, and enslaved. It has a greater gravity to it than a handsome nobleman doing the same.

But more often than not it’s simply a generic penis stand-in for you to insert yourself when convenient. The artist could draw a generic male figure, sure. Some do. It’s a matter of artist preference, and more often than not simply inserting an orcish penis stand-in can serve dual purpose in works like these; since most don’t care and some are into it, the small subset of people it upsets are generally outweighed by the other 2 groups.
