It's the B/W shading that came from the original B/W source.
Common fault of people who do coloring of doujins is they left the B/W shading from the raw coz it's a pain to redo all of it in color, so they just left is as is, making the colors look flat.

I've yet to see a redrawer that can redo all of the shadings in a B/W works so yeah, the person who made this edit might want to make that a goal.
