If you work with images in such a high resolution like here, never save same in 24bit or 32bit colordepth because the geallersize will go through the roof.
Save them in grayscale or index colors. e.g. your image 0006 comes as 35Mb images. Saving it as grayscale reduced the filesize to 12.9Mb and saving it as index reduced the size to 11MB.
If you think the filesize as png is still not reasonable you can still use jpg instead and save your images with a quality between 95 and 80%. You will loose image quality but you can also loose tons of Mbs

The raw was saved as JPG, so the translation should've been saved as JPG as well. The original scan was full color, so converting it to greyscale would modify the content. Probably not by a lot, but in this case it's not a trivial matter of saving greyscale images as full-color.

(Ideally, the raw scan should've been scanned in greyscale mode, leveled/denoised to reduce paper texture, and saved as PNG. But it's too late to properly fix that).
