When I first read this I thought the story was a bit confusing due to the "engrish" translation. But when I went to translate, I realized that the problem was a lack of transitions (especially for the flashback scene).

So I've added captions where necessary and I think that helps alot. Even though it's not really rewriting the story, that alone is probably enough to earn a rewrite tag. (I've always thought people disliked rewrites because they often change names and character relationships. Yet it seems other, more benign and subtle changes can trigger a rewrite flag as well.)

Since it's already going to be called a rewrite there's no reason to hold back. So I did alot more massaging of the script than usual (but still nothing that materially changes things). You will note some major differences between my version and the other translation. I think these are consistent with the original for the following reasons.

In the couch scene of the flashback, glasses-kun says, "Your father-in-law has to think about his job." This is indistinct enough that it could be taken a number of ways. I originally took glasses-kun to be the sister's boyfriend, since the father-in-law (who appears with Mom the the bedroom scene) is not wearing glasses and seems to have a slightly different haircut. However, in part 3 of this series, Mom is feeding glasses-kun and sending him off to work like he's her husband. That means he is actually the Father-in-Law and was simply referring to himself in the third person (the Japanese do that alot).

That also means that the divorce that is mentioned in the bedroom scene is the mother's divorce, not the daughters. This becomes even more obvious when Son and Mom are fucking and talking about why he didn't go after her sooner.

In any case, I think it's better for the changes. You'll note I did a bit of a color boost as well. I really like how that turned out.

Final note: I've already translated parts 2 and 3 (I just need to get around to Typesetting them) and I don't think they really need captions, so I'll be sticking closer to the originals and presenting them as translations.

But then I read your reasoning, and I think I agree. It is labeled after all. And I see no reason to dislike a more coherent interpretation of a source material.
