@madarauchi5: A rocket is anything that gets propelled by burning whatever it is carrying, a missile is something guided towards a target. A missile is usually a type of rocket, by definition neither are larger than the other.

For example, in the game Quake you fire rockets towards enemies. They are not missiles because they have no guidance. But in the game Unreal Tournament you can lock the rocket onto enemies, turning it into the subtype missile.

It is possible to "rocket jump" with missiles, since they are rockets with guidance. But don't you dare call grenade jumping rocket jumping. Explosive jumping is a suitable group name.

@Krowler Since I find this interesting, what would one call a charge, without guidance, propelled via an ionic engine, the release of pressure from a pressurized internal reservoir of compressed fluid (air, water, etc.), or an extremely high RPM fan serving as a rotor? The answer is, of course, a rocket. "Burning" is not required, only that an object is propelled by an internally contained generator of acceleration. I considered that since there is a semantic argument, I might as well further clarify and correct. Also, the "guidance" thing isn't technically a sticking point either. By the original definition of the word, any projectile is a "missile", but not all missiles are rockets. Certainly, an arrow launched from a bow, would not be considered a "rocket" unless it had some sort of internal method of producing thrust after it's release, but would still be a missile.
