@Volttekka People get let off for previous crimes with either no punishment or reduced punishment all the time for giving information away, and that seems to be what they're implying since pig face said he sold his intel. Yea, it is nonsensical the elves would cooperate with one slave trader and not the other. Plus, the one with remorses and even willing for repent got punished while the one not even giving a second tought about selling a years old friend for money get rewarded.

Should I not assume human motivations upon elves? Cuz elves are generally rather skilled in scouting, especially in the forests so they should have been able to get the information without guy #2's help.
