This doujin is a demonstration of the following proposition:

The usage of the word 'daddy' is more appropriate than transliterating 'oji-san' in exactly this context. While it does not have the implications of 'creepy old man' that the term 'oji-san' has, it puts more emphasis on the hierarchy of the relationship between the two parties involved. It also emphasizes the consensual nature of their relationship in a concise manner. While the common translation of 'oji-san'--uncle--also emphasizes hierarchy while retaining the 'creepy' image, I believe it comes off as stilted when used within doujinshi translations.

This usage of the word 'daddy' refers more towards the 'sugar daddy' definition of the word, rather than a familial 'father' one. While early adoption of this term will likely result in some confusion such as mistagging, I believe that once the term reaches widespread use, context should provide enough insight in making the distinction between the two definitions.

In addition, I propose that the term 'daddy' to be applied in more widespread applications, such as (but not limited to): sub/dom relationship, mind break (under specific circumstances), and prostitution. Further usage and experimentation will be needed to deduce whether the term 'daddy' is appropriate in these contexts. Finally, to promote the widespread use of this term, I suggest breaking the assumptions that had to be made in its implementation. Specifically, an experiment to see whether or not the term 'daddy' fits in a non-consensual context.

Also edit:
Thank you for your feedback, and I will now use this corner to address them.

The main concern seems to be that people deem the usage of the term 'daddy' to be exclusive to incest. While that is the traditional consensus, the entire premise of this whole exercise is to broaden the usage of the word. The lack of the incest tag and context should be sufficient to make it clear that this work does not contain incest.

Next, I will address the effectiveness of the word 'daddy' over the transliteration and the direct translation of the word 'oji-san' to 'uncle'. The feedback shows that the term 'daddy' is just as creepy, if not creepier than the term 'uncle'. While I do not feel this way myself, it may be true for some people. The suggestive conotation of the word 'daddy' has ingrained itself convincingly enough within english culture that I do think that the usage of it is superior to the usage of the two aforementioned alternatives.

@constantly When I woke up today I didn't think I'd be reading a treatise on the precise usage of the word "daddy", but here we are.

The fact that this isn't incest made the use of 'daddy' extremely off putting. Don't tease me with a 'daddy' that's not a daddy.

Guess im gonna have to add the "inverted nipples" and "prostitution" tags. At least upvote them.

No, no, no! You can't use "daddy" like that unless is her actual daddy! It will disappoint anybody wanting incest!

I do think that "daddy" is just as creepy as "uncle".

Honestly? “Daddy” is way creepier. I’ve had people call me that and it’s always offputting, like a Sub is really forcing something on you that you might not always want.

I get the point being made, but considering that Japan has already embraced a similar enough term for a "sugar daddy" arrangement - "papakatsu", with the sugar daddies being called "papa" by their girls - I think it would be at best redundant and at worst misleading to apply the word "daddy" here. "Uncle" for "oji-san" may be too literal, but it would in cases like this manga imply the level of familiarity and affection between them; "daddy" either implies way more closeness in a family way than exists here in this manga, or else implies a relationship wherein both are treating this more as a business arrangement than a personal connection, and neither of those cases are true.

That being the case, attempting to shoehorn the word "daddy" in for "oji-san" comes off as actually more forced and confusing than simply leaving it as the romanized "oji-san".

I'm firmly in the camp that words don't have prescriptive definitions (inherent meanings), they have usages. Anyways in my region, "Daddy" definitely has way too strong a incestuous usage. I wouldn't call a lover "mommy" any more than I would want her to call me "daddy".

Not digging on the translator, I think it's good to push for evolving usages of words if you think it would fit in better in your region.

This basically classifies as a rewrite. Oji san does not translate to daddy literally or in a meaning you suggest. Oji san is used to describe a man past their prime. The English equivalent is mister. It's just that the surname is attached when it is known.

Jesus christ, did you get all your cultural knowledge from reading hentai?

Problem with using "daddy" is it loses that subtext/becomes more literal the younger the character saying it is: A 26-year-old calling him daddy suggests prostitution, but a 6-year-old calling him daddy is familial. "Mister" works better for younger characters.

almost sure the prostitution tag doesn't apply here. she's not asking for money at all, just calling him to spend time with her. in fact she straight out says he shouldn't give her money, so it's more like he's shoving money into her face as opposed to trading money for sex
