Guess after Captain Jack was as astounding success (read: cancelled) Mike realized furries just want yiff. So he drew this comic, which is more like a series of nude/erotic scenes not really related to each other.

The cover is a parody of Pablo Picasso. Back in the 1990's time frame, which was when this particular comic was published, typical caricatures for Picasso would have that artist hat along with a painting or landscape planting that was vaguely reminiscent of the Cubism (the painting of the foxgirl).

Same as with any forced inclusion - like making sexuality or race a defining characteristic of a protagonist. In porn that is more than acceptable - maybe even necessary - but for story to succeed there must be actually, well, a story. A tale told with a decent storytelling, style, and flavour.

Most of the furry non-yiff stories fail exactly because they are first and foremost furry, and only after that stories. Blacksad is a wonderful and quite successful thing in spite of general tendency precisely because it is a detective noir/political thriller first, and a furry thing as an afterthought. An aesopian tale, where animal people aspect serves as a metaphorical depiction of the observable reality instead of being a focal point.

On the opposite side are abominations like much maligned Extinctioners, which is basically 'Xmen, but furry' - with zero relevance of the furry aspect beside surface references, zero originality in conceptual area, zero truly original characters - but somehow still popular enough, my guess would be because of TA favouring any kind of superheroic bullshite, and blatant thievery of ideas from the Xmen franchise, created by much, much more interesting authors.

Mr. Kazaleh tried to tell a story focusing primarily on a storytelling aspect - an was found terribly lacking in that particular area. So, without further lures like popular thematics, he was forced to revert to usage of what sells well - and as long as humans remain humans, sex will be selling well.

Oh well, I guess.

Oh, I think he realized it half way through Captain Jack's run, which is why it went from basically all ages to having sex & nudity right around the time raccoon girl was introduced.

For what it's worth, his furry ladies are easy on the eye.

Mike's attempt to tell a serious furry tale, The Suit, was praised critically but sales were abysmal. Tells you something about folks, doesn't it?

If you want "furry" but no yiff, with both good writing and good art just read "Black Sad"

I have no clue what's going on in half of these, but good art is good art.

@Pseudo-Nim - I dunno. I am a furry not just for the porn (it is an important aspect of it) but because I enjoy worlds with anthro creatures being an organic part of it. Think like in Avatar with how the Na'Vi are connected to the nervous system of the planet, sort of in symbiosis with it. That you cannot do with humans. It's why Blacksad does nothing for me (and his anthro ladies have weirdly human faces, especially the cats)... It's just a generic film noir detective story and the characters being animal people adds nothing to it. Take the second story, it is just white supremacy and racism, and makes no sense since many of these animals would naturally be each other's predators and prey, them uniting to keep "black people" down because they have white fur made little sense.
Even Zootopia did that better with the prejudice against predators or bunnies on display.
But do agree, much of these furry comics, like TwoKinds or Extinctioners, or CyberKitties are just either a flimsy excuse to draw sexy stuff, or another genre but with furries. The truly good furry stories are rare, and I have yet to see fan-made comics that hit the mark. Of the official comics, Jack Wolfskin comes close. I like that their world can exist due to a meat-like soy product that put a stop to cannibalism between predators and prey, or how birds look down on other races that cannot fly naturally.

Kazaleh indeed truly failed, but he really had nothing to talk about in this comic, other than basically complain that he is unappreciated as an artist, which is kind of the death sentence you can do as an artist...

@biznizz - I did notice that, but also the adventures kinda stopped halfway through as well, and it became a boring slog... I can look at porn on FA I don't need a comic for that. Do agree though that his cat and dog ladies are amazing. Pity he seems to have disappeared.

@elwaffle - Eh, I read it, it isn't really furry. Just because the characters are anthro does not make the story furry. You could make Blacksad into a frog or a bird and his character would not change. You could make everyone humans and the story would just be the same. I need it to matter in an anthro comic that the characters are not human. Otherwise there is really no reason not to make them human.
