Why is it that Tumblr stuff always has these weird autistic/ transgender undertones?
I mean a lot of the concepts are neat but they're peppered in this 'style' that makes them kinda off-putting.
It's not uncanny as there's a visible direction. It's just that everything is smothered in this cliche almost androgynous approach.
Like a weird corruption of Scott Pilgrim's style.
Mind you this isn't the case with EVERYTHING from Tumblr as there are some great artists who come from there or who I guess still post there. However, the sub-culture of 'weirdos' that have spawned from there has put a damper on the site's reputation, at least in my mind.
Chromdagger: what the hell are you talking about? There is nothing in this gallery that has anything to do with "autism" nor any depictions of trans characters. If anything, it's mostly if not entirely pictures of women. And as for the style being a "weird corruption of Scott Pilgrim," well, no shit: there's a bunch of Scott Pilgrim fanart in here, too. Gee, it's almost like the artist was INSPIRED by it or something.
If anything, I think what's more striking about this gallery is the gradual transition from [and I use the term lightly] "normal" body types to BBWs. It's kind of like watching the artist slowly discover something about him/her/itself. Not that I have a problem with their preferences, it's just more obvious to me than anything having remotely to do with transgenders.
I mean, I kind of understand what you're saying about an "off-putting" style, but that's about it. You're projecting your own experience with all Tumblr artists onto one of them, but this one doesn't fill any of your check boxes.
If you don't like it, just say you don't like it: don't try to make this about social politics when it has nothing to do with them at all.
