//To quote Eclipse Comics was an comic book publisher. //End quote
This one is from month of January, year of 1987. Technically furry (as much as 'The Chanur Saga' or 'The Man-Kzin Wars' are); probably 'non-h', and if such - definitely of 'western' kind.
Given heavy involvement of Steve Gallacci, this is - naturally - a military science fiction, with focal point following the band of space mercs through their journeys in the far future, where pure-strain humanity is demonstrably rarer than unicorns due to latter being actually brought to existence long ago through the miracle of gene engineering along with other mythical creatures like North-West Pacific Tree Octopi and virgins; all while the galactic scene, ravaged by the neverending series of wars between shapers and mechanistsdrukhari haemonculi and Adeptus Mechanicus 'splicers' and 'tekkers', sinks rapidly into the quagmire of the new conflict between the inseparable as much as they are incompatible ideologies. Needless to say, thouse of you who bear at least passing familiarity with Schismatrix may find setting of this particular story rather... cute.
Series run for 17 issues from January of 1987 to October of 1989 on supposedly bi-monthly basis, with later issues spread a tad more thinly in time due to Eclipse Comics financial problems; publisher itself (credited with 'first comics company to publish trading cards' accolade, by the by) folded ~shortly after, in 1993, due to literal wrath of god, perpetual personal problems, and evolving nature of contested market niche; and was bought not a few years later by one Todd MacFartlane for mere pittance, 'cause fucker collects thouse things or something.
First chapters were reprinted as a collected volume under the will and guidance of the writer, one Steven Barnes, about the tail end of the year of 2014, with consequent volumes following shortly after.
I do not have all the issues, nor the abovementioned collection reprints. But here are some scans of the original run.
...Oh, and Weasel Patrol, appearing as a tacked-in comic in some issues, was apparently slated as a basis for the animation series, but nobody actually bothered to buy it. Figures...
