@pornocles Americans are a little too obsessed with slavery, but it isn't necessarily the worst thing ever. *American* slavery was so bad because of how badly slaves were allowed to be treated (which was partially a consequence of the country being founded on problematic morals, like all that liberty and free enterprise shit).

Don't get me wrong, even with the proper rights and responsibilities, we're probably better off without chattel slavery. But for example, the kind where you sell yourself into slavery temporarily might be fine (with the proper protections).

I don't even know what to think about prison anymore. It's such a complex and multi-layered topic, and I've heard too many good arguments from different perspectives.
It's obvious that the current system is bad, but it's hard to tell what a better system would look like, to balance justice and rehabilitation.
