Tarekatsu is making a text script of the doujin to send to me so that I can copy and paste the text into translation software. They are also editing the text in a way so that when it gets put into translation software the chances of the text being mistranslated are decreased, while also keeping the meaning of the text as close as possible to the original. I can assure you that the translations I have made so far are satisfactory and tells the story accurately. I will work on the rest of the pages Tarekatsu sends me more pages to translate. I'm curious to know how you can tell if the translation is accurate or not when all you've done is copy-paste it into DeepL. The only way you could know if it's accurate is if you understood Japanese, but in that case, you wouldn't need MTL in the first place. All you CAN do is make it more readable by editing the output. Which is, unfortunately, almost always innacurate, because MTLs are... not very good, to say the least. I encourage you to either learn the language, or seek someone that can give your translations a quality check. Thanks for flagging it as a MTL, though.

All the reassurances in your paragraph unfortunately mean nothing if you can't parse the language you're translating from.

Here's how both bubbles should be TLd: "You... bastard... Why'd you... // do all of this for...?" You could also put the tense in the present (doing this).

I will address the comments regarding this translation. This response became a lot longer than I intended to, but I had a lot to say regarding the comments I received. I'll first respond to cutegyaru. I will admit that I altered some lines of dialogue, but I did so because I could not tell the context. I added the line, "well this development isn't surprising" because I thought that since the man was complaining that the fight was too one-sided and in the next immediate line he says it's surprising the investors are not excited by the match. I thought this was a contradiction by the author, or potential sarcasm. I edited the lines as best as I could with the translations I got so that the text would match what was happening. That's how you get the examples you listed with pages 4 and 5. On page 4 one of the characters 闇 means darkness, but could also mean black market. Another example on page 4 is the character 華. This character means flower, but could also mean beauty, so I got creative with the translations and made the sentence the way I did. I am willing to admit that I was wrong about my statement regarding the translation being satisfactory and that I overestimated the power of DeepL. I will thank you for not being as harsh as the other commenter when you addressed criticism for my claims of the translation being satisfactory and for acknowledging I had listed this as a machine translation. I used the word "satisfactory" because I wanted to get across that this was not going to be a 100% perfect translation, but it would be good enough for those that want a rough idea of the story of this doujin. I had no intention of meaning that this was a substitute for a proper translation.

I will now respond to Daruna's comments. As I have stated before, I will admit it was contradictory of me to say the translation was satisfactory while not understanding Japanese. I just wished that you were a little less harsh about it. I did spend a lot of time looking over the translations, attempting to change the text to make it more understandable, proof reading the text for grammar and spelling mistakes, and spent time cleaning the pages and putting in the text and editing the text to fit in the speech bubbles. It's not like I half-assed it and just copy and pasted the text from DeepL like you made it out to be. Tarekatsu, the author, also put in the effort to type the text script and alter it to make their work more accessible. Not a lot of Japanese artists with little knowledge of English would go out of their way to type out the text of a manga that is 80 pages long for a foreign fan. I felt that I had some obligation to try and reward their efforts by trying my best to get out a translation and hopefully attract more fans that could potentially buy their work if they enjoyed the work a lot. I also wanted to make a translation for those that could not afford to pay for a commission to get this work translated.

The translation was meant to be temporary until someone wanted to commission a proper translator to do this doujin. The first doujin I had seen by Tarekatsu was Haiki Shobun No.2. I was scrolling through a hentai website and I just happened to see the thumbnail. The art style looked nice and it featured Mai Shiranui, one of my favorite female fighting game characters. The work also was focused on ryona, which I was into. Even though I could not read the text, I enjoyed the doujin for the art style, ryona, and the facial expressions of the heroine. At the time there was no translation for it, so I could not enjoy the tension and peril of the story as much as I could. I attempted to translate it using Google Translate, but most of the translations were unreadable. At the time none of Tarekatsu's works received a translation either. Almost a year had passed and no one translated Haiki Shobun No. 2, the first Mai doujin, or any of Tarekatsu's other works. Previously I tried to translate the doujin using Google Translate, but I discovered DeepL. I gave DeepL a try and the translations were finally understandable. There were some translation issues here and there, but it was significantly better than Google Translate. The lines that were not that understandable I got creative with my edits. The second work I translated was Bad End Simulation Vol. 4 featuring Sailor Jupiter.

After I used machine translation for that doujin, I noticed that official translations for Tarekatsu's other works were being released and translated into English. Someone was now commissioning translations of Tarekatsu's works. All of the Bad End Simulation works featuring the Sailor Moon characters besides the one I already translated received a translation. Even the first Haiki Shobun doujin with Mai, which I planned to translate but gave up, managed to get a translation for it. All of these translations were commissioned by the same person. I can't say this with 100% certainty, but I would like to think this person came across one of my two translations of Tare's works and enjoyed them so much that they commissioned proper translations for Tare's other works. I don't think this is too far-fetched to think because at the time I made those translations, Haiki Shobun No.2 had been out for a year with no translation and Bad End Simulation Vol. 4 had been out for two years and was not translated either. The first work by Tarekatsu that got released with a proper translation was Bad-end simulation Vol. 1, which was released 4 years ago at that time. Just two months after I released the translation for the Sailor Jupiter doujin, multiple translations had been commissioned for Tarekatsu's works. I don't think that's just a coincidence.

My main motivation for making the machine translation of the Chun-li doujin and the other translations was to appeal to people similar to me that loved Tare's art, but could not enjoy the plot due to language barriers. I knew the translations were never going to be perfect, but would be good enough to satisfy the readers who were hoping that someday the works would be translated, but never did. I truly believe that if not for my machine translations of Tare's other works, that there would still be no translations for any of Tare's works. I made this translation with the best of intentions. I was even transparent and stated that this was a machine translation from the beginning. I don't know if I will continue with the translations now. I honestly didn't have that much motivation to translate this doujin and release it due to the time it takes, as well as the length of this work, but I did it out of a sense of obligation for Tare's efforts. I think I'll just translate the text script that Tare will send me for my own enjoyment and not the pages anymore. If someone is in the script you can send me a message on E-hentai. I don't know if you can send files on E-Hentai, but if you can't you can give me your email and I will send it to you.

Well that's all I had to say. This was very long, so if anyone read this all the way through, yes, even you Daruna, I am grateful you took the time to understand my intentions behind this translation. If Obi is reading this I'd like to say thank you for commissioning the other works by Tarekatsu and that if you want this work to get translated, but don't have the money to afford it or don't want to pay for it by yourself, we can set up a way so that multiple people who are interested can fund the translation.

Putting out any translation, whether it be good, bad, mtl, professional, pretty much kills the odds of another translation of the same work being made unless it was already in progress. Which makes putting out a "temporary" translation "until someone wanted to commission a proper translator" almost always counterproductive.

When you provide assurances for the quality of something, to people who by and large do not know any better, when you yourself admit that you are talking entirely out of your ass, I'm going to be harsh. You even mention this being "temporary" until someone - presumably someone else, someone who is not you - decides to commission a proper translation. Why did you not simply do this yourself? Is this love for the artist somehow not strong enough for you to shell out your own money? Things like this make me question your motives, and when I question motives, I'm going to be harsh.

The reason I did it incorrectly was because no one translated Tare's work before I did. That's changed as of now, so I probably didn't need to do it anymore, but the fact you didn't even acknowledge that shows you didn't pay attention to everything I had to say, and only listened to the parts you could use to attack me.

As for why I didn't commission the translation myself, not everyone has a lot of money. I know that makes me sound like I'm a cheapskate, but I did purchase this work, along with other works by Tarekatsu, so you can't say I don't financially support Tarekatsu. In fact, by me purchasing his work I am directly supporting Tarekatsu. Didn't you also say that commissions are a form of piracy, something you stated you despise? If I were to take your advice, I would be participating in an act of piracy. I'll delve further into this topic later.

I even offered a suggestion for me and others who want this work translated to gather our money collectively so that not only one person has to fund the translation. I even stated that one of my reasons for doing the translation was to promote Tarekatsu's work. I am well aware that by me uploading this on e-hentai that many people will just view it and not buy it. My response to this is that a good amount of people on e-hentai do not speak Japanese, so they are not enjoying the work to its fullest extent. Since most of these people do not speak Japanese, they would not even know this work exists unless they happened to see this on DLsite, where most products are in Japanese, or in Tare's blogs or on his pixiv or twitter, which is also unlikely. I was also exposed to Tare's work and became passionate about it through seeing it uploaded on a hentai website. So even though this is technically piracy, I don't believe it's hurting Tarekatsu in the long run, and can actually help them get access to a foreign audience that can buy their works.

I can understand this mindset but without realising you point out the big flaw to it in the next paragraph

Translators that chase after their own tastes can't really smell this was supposed to be only temporary when they just do a quick search to check what has and hasn't translated yet, though clearly announcing the use of MTL in the title does make them more likely to notice it. Translators working on commission are significantly less likely to get paid to do it if a free translation is available, even if it's a bad one.

Maybe if you share the script you got on the forum someone will use it, if not just for the novelty of getting to work with a script personally provided by the author himself. I imagine it would be a welcome change for those normally staring down requests not to repost on the afterword when they reach the end.
