I have some of the guidebooks and am looking to upload scans, are there any guides on how to make the scans less toasty and how to properly scan things without cutting the book into a couple hundred pieces first?

for the best scan effect need to cutting otherwise There will be weird marks in the middle ,and scan dpi>400.about less toasty it mean less yellow?try use PS to make it brighter or other like color calibration etc.

If you have a good camera on your phone, you can use scanning application to scan it instead of scanner. It works pretty good. In this way, you dont need to make book into papers... except those images printed on 2pages and connected into one, and i guess you still need to little editing depending on how image scanned.
