I know a hentai site isn't really the best place to bring this up, but honestly I've never really been a fan of equating gyarus with valley girls and making them talk like them. Stuff like taking liberties with the last panel with "he's so adorbs" where in the raws she just says "かわいい".
Yes, I know they're a little similar in how they both talk with a lot of slang, but IMO this is just taking the easy way out. It's something you see localization teams do a lot of since they don't really care about westernizing everything and leaving absolutely zero Japanese identity left besides the names... most of the time, anyway.

Kind of ironic considering how you were on the other upload talking about TL accuracy and the author's intent, no?

The very fact that this is in English already evacuates a decent chunk of the "Japanese identity" out of the text -- that's just an unavoidable side effect of translation.

There is no "Western" equivalent to gyaru speech patterns because that phenomenon is unique to Japan. The closest we can equate it to is valley-girl speech or really slangy, casual speech (feel free to check out how Irodori, for example, localized "Transferred to the Gyaru Academy"). If you want the pure, unadulterated "Japanese identity" experience, you unfortunately need to learn Japanese and read it in that language. This holds true for any language.

Finally, I fail to see how saying "He's so adorbs." instead of "He's [so] cute." doesn't align with the author's intent. Cute and adorable are synonyms, and to keep in tone with her speech pattern, I abbreviated it. That's... a completely fair translation IMO. Now, if I wrote "He's just the most scrumptious little bunny-bear!", then I would completely understand your point. Some localizers do go too far with their liberties, and I've been vocal about this before (Brock's jelly doughnuts, the ridiculous localization of Ace Attorney, etc.)

(My critique of the other TL had nothing to do with localization or creative liberties. In fact, I pretty much never care about creative liberties taken by translators as long as it remains consistent with the original idea. Some sections were just wrong, as in, they were mistranslated or omitted.)

Only halfway related to this specific doujin but really both people's ideas of accurate translation/localization is somewhat flawed. The others for the reasons translators have already talked about (stiffness, not even attempting to capture slang use, etc) and ones that use valleygirl because they're working with outdated valleygirl stereotypes that aren't really accurate to today's youth and are more so a caricature of the youths of the 80/90s. Source being that I've lived in the valley my whole life and my job involves being around highschoolers.

Not that this is a call to action I think it's an acceptable shorthand to use to try and get the correct character feeling in your translation work. I just find it personally comical at times.

Fair enough.

It's always hard to catch the ever-changing evolution of slang without coming across as either meme-y/cringe or, like you said, outdated (though gyarus themselves are mostly anachronistic - that fashion died in the early 00s xd). I'd say that's prob the hardest part of localizing this kind of stuff, and certainly something I can do better.
