But how long should we wait for the translation, a year or two? The magazine is from 2019.

I've done a few machine translations. MTLs aren't all bad. But I've also tried to give the dialogue sense and character without destroying it's intent. Basically, about as good as a decent dub of an anime without all the Funimation cringe. I also ask any Japanese speakers in the comments which lines are way off or need tweaking so that I can edit them appropriately.

People like you really need to stop perpetuating the myth that "MTLs aren't all bad". They are when it comes to a) creative writing; and b) contextual languages like Japanese. Idk how many times I have to bust galleries and write long-ass comments to show that even extremely well-edited MTLs are still full of mistakes, many of them major. Browse the "rough translation" tag to see what I mean.

If I were to do that, I'd basically be re-translating this entire thing. For some bizarre reason, you think MTLs just make "small" mistakes and all you need to do to "fix" them is to make them sound English. The problem is that MTLs don't just write like machines, they translate like machines, making their output often wrong. Even if you were to edit the output to make it "readable", chances are you're only polishing a turd as the translation is fundamentally incorrect.

MTL can be used as an assistance tool but it should never taken at face value like it's done here. When you see Dad/Father translated to Mr. Otto... you know there was no attempt to double check the accuracy of the MTL.

Well, they're certainly not great. C+ at best and D- at worst. I think they work best for light simple translations and not complex drawn out plots. That being said,
if it's that much of a detriment, then perhaps an appeal to admins should be made to ban MTLs. You yourself have said you often have to come to MTL uploads to chastise them, but is it making a dent in the uploads? I think better time would be spent appealing to the ones over the site, unless they don't care. :/.

If you are going to post a god-awful translation of anything, at least have the decency to go over it and retype it to make sense. A 20-page doujin would take 30 minutes tops. Doesn't matter if its accurate, doesn't matter if the original meaning is lost. 95% of people wouldn't be able to tell anyways. This one is far from the worst offender I've seen from MTL, but leave not just the translation but even the typesetting to a machine is staggering. This kind of minimum-effort garbage is an affront to everyone, especially since a workable fix requires only a pitiful amount of actual investment.

People are doing this MTL unironically, deluding themselves into thinking there aren't people who would be willing to translate it if they'd would stop being cheap SOB's and open a bounty or pay for a TL. I haven't paid for many works, but I've paid for a few...I'd rather wait 4 months of someone wit a backlog of things to translate than to do it for free and butcher the entire fanspace.

After thinking about it a little more, I don't even know how you would enforce a "NO MTL" rule. I mean, 100% of it relies on the uploader being honest about the translation in the first place. Maybe you could set up tests or something to try to sus them out? But that just seems like a whole other can of worms.

@moximoore if sufficient evidence is shown in the comments, to know a gallery is poorly translated and the author over a period of time has no intention of improving or the gallery is MTL'd then it should be expunge-able, once a gallery gets the poor grammer/rough translation it should then be expunged. If the uploader is a repeat offender his account and IP gets banned.
