I'm not sure if we'll ever get to that point? There seems to be a sizeable stigma against adding sexualized aspects to games. I'm all for attractive and sexualized character design, but even in a game like Neir Automata there was no explicit sex.

In the Japanese side of things they've been adding sex to games since forever. A good example are visual novels. The stories vary widely in tone and genre, but many do include explicit scenes.

On the other hand I don't think all games really need sex. Elden Ring for example does well without any sexualized aspects. As for sexualized designs, that's another topic. It would depend on the tone and setting. There's a Souls-Like game called Code Vein developed by Bandai Namco. While it doesn't have any 18+ content, the characters are very much attractive, both male and female. In that setting and story it's a boon to have attractive anime-style designs.
