Honestly I think my brain is too damaged by the internet to see what the deal is. I haven't seen the movie so don't know how it's shown there, but at least both of them are toons (not an actual mouse and fly) and similar sizes? Once you've looked at Pokemon and seen "Hot Skitty on Wailord action" (i.e. a tiny house cat can breed with a whale blimp) or whatever happened between Donkey and Dragon in Shrek, I feel like this doesn't even phase me? Like, people have posted multiple artworks of humans and "life size" Gadget that look like fairy snuff comics, I feel like a mouse and a bug are only an issue because so many people had feelings for Gadget.

This was so fucking weird when I saw it in the movie. I didn't really matter who Gadget ended up with. She was from the era where they had a female character play on whatever surrounding male characters interests, whether intentionally or not. This was before characters were heavily shipped like they are now.

But Zipper?! That's like finding out an old friend you lost touch with, ended marrying the family dog. Yeah, I know Zipper's smarter than that, but he was literally the mascot character.

To be fair, this is so terrible, I can almost accept Gadget x Chap now. Fuck Disney, this movie is the final nail in the coffin for me. I wont watch it. The whole idea of "is this canon?" is... well I can only laugh at the people taking it seriously. If you wanted "canon" you sure as hell wouldn't find it in a film that mixed up whether or not toons were created or born or simply phased into existence.
A lot of it is jokes using tropes about the "behind the camera" shit, where some of the cast members succeed while the others crash hard. Some do end up in relationships with each other, and they might not be who you expect.
I get it, you have a nostalgic crush on something, and that something is used as a medium to take the piss out of an entire industry.
