@ED17 probably because he's given so much detail and personality while the comic is about that girl, not him. We don't really care who that guy is, so giving him so much detail brings the focus to him and that feels odd. I like when artists use a blank face (no eyes, just a shadow) for males because, after all, we don't really care who they are.
