While you are right about standard usage of 『ー』 meaning an extended vowel sound, as a translator of this work you should've noticed a certain missing element while reading this story, about 『 Spa Shota Sultan 』... exactly, the lack of『 Spa 』anywhere in the story

I obviously don't know who are those 『 several Japanese people 』that you've talked with, but suffice to say, from your response, you certainly haven't talked with those who are in the author's target audience of this kind of work or who are immersed in the either Fujoshi 『 腐女子 』 and know their Fujoshi slang 『 腐女子用語 』, Gyaru and know their slang 『 ギャル語 』or young-adult nerdy Japanese, especially young girls ( JKs ) / young-adult women

Because they'd instantly recognize the pattern of changing the usage of standard Japanese language, which various Japanese subcultures use to stand out from among the norm of mainstream culture, from other subcultures and make their members recognize each other / give them sense of belonging to said subculture, or just to try to stay trendy
