God, Schwartz's piece really stands out. Everyone else is still cruising in the easy-going sex 'n drugs COMIX era of the 60s and 70s and he drops in like a nuclear bomb going "It's the 90s fuckers! Welcome to furry art that looks like a Disney animator did it in their spare time!" The old-school wasn't bad, but it was just a whole different mindset. They really do end up looking like comics: loose, stylized, simple. Meanwhile Schwartz has all this detail, perspective, consistent and finely articulated anatomy. It's really a shame the guy never went beyond doing comics, Amiga animations and the occasional folio. Could have done so much more.
@vx1900 I wish more people took their time to write comments like yours, and I'm not even a furry fanatic (I just like Eric Schwartz, and I remember him fondly from the Amiga times)... it's very rare to find discussions about art, and the styles of different eras. Most comments of this kind fall on deaf ears, and most people are just here to fap, but as an amateur artist I'd love to have more discussions about something a bit deeper than "that's hot". Also, vintage stuff often doesn't get the respect it deserves, while we're flooded by new boring, formulaic crap that has no artistic value whatsoever.
I'm very grateful that the OP got a hold of this issue and decided to scan each page at such a high resolution. Media from this era is so rare and nearly impossible to find online.
