This is definitely Paulines fault. Honestly is important in a relationship. and, her lies clearly would have created this rift as she ignored and dismissed his feelings.
Having kids is a large part of any long term relationship. it establishes that he was clear and open about his desires. She however, lied. if you don't want, or can't have children, this is something that should be put up front at the start of a relationship.

Furthermore, she treats her relationship as a zero-sum exchange. "I am generous in one aspect of the relationship, so therefore, I'm justified in being distant, and unreceptive elsewhere". thats not how it works. giving secret anonymous gifts doesn't justify the face to face dismissals. in the same way a rich business man making 6 figures, and paying for a lavish lifestyle, and giving expensive gifts, doesn't justify beating his wife. they don't cancel each other out.

And worse, she clearly resents him for her secret gifts. She's mad and passive aggressive about his lack of thanks for any magical benefits shes provided that he doesn't even know about. she's lying to him, then holding it against him, that he doesn't see through her lies.

And, then, stalks him, because she has to be in control.

And finally, consider her last curse. She prevents them from being able to openly communicate with each other honestly.
