I used MTL as a basis for this translation, the text was then cleaned up in order to make it somewhat comprehensible and free from major grammatical errors.

Listen. Use Papago app. It's the best translator out there and is actually Asia based. It's OCR is second to none and most modern translators have hijacked the app to make typesetting easier. It is fast as fuck too.

Sugoi translator is already very good alternative that uses machine translation but has been injected with various rules to make it more accurate.

I'm currently working on supervising Mikoto Shiratori's Inyouchuu Kyou with Translator++ and I have to say, most of the lines have translated well so far. In my opinion, it will only take 5 years or less until translators become irrelevant when translating your average Japanese doujin. People don't get the fact that majority of Japanese people only use the most common of common kanjis and words in real life, making them believe machine translators wouldn't be able to handle the thousands of Kanji when it's more or less just under 1000.

Listen my dude, I know you love MTL and will probably forego the weakness of your flesh and become a cyborg when that becomes available, but Papago is basically a slightly worse DeepL. You saying it "mostly" translates correctly makes me question your ability to read/understand Japanese.

I actually amused myself plugging a bunch of lines and seeing what it spits out, then comparing both of them. They both fall for the same trappings all machine translators do. They suck at context, they suck at tone, they suck at complex grammar, they will unashamedly omit sections they can't parse from their output, and they are, more often than not, wrong, thus requiring HEAVY human editing (who might also get it wrong.)

With credit to the OP, he did make this very palatable, but that doesn't fix the fundamental issue of incorrect output that is all too common with MTL.

It looks a direct translation from the italian version. That's why you found made-up lines. If something is implied in a phrase, most of the times, in italian language you need to better explain what the character is trying to tell others or it would make no sense in our language/sounds totally different than the original meaning, by trying to understand the situation/context ("spiegone" for short). We need to be specific as much as possibile when we talk, or we could easly misunderstand each other. You can see that also in videogames translations, movies, and so on, (Persona 5 is full of examples, just to mention one).
IE.: The expression I Love You or 好き (let's ignore for a sec 愛してる) can't be translated easly, because if you use "Ti amo" you're confessing your love, but if you use "Ti voglio bene" you're confessing affection to your friend, parents, sister, etc. 好き can also be translated as "Mi piace" (I like) or "Adoro" (uh... duh?). In Italian we need to understand what kind of love is or how much a character like something to translate it properly in our language.

Also, IE: "Questa ragazza è tanta roba" was translated as "This chick is crazy". That's a slang for "I can't believe how cool/skilled/hot/etc this guy/girl/whatever is"... sort of. I don't even know how to translated it.

The Elden Ring localisation is noted as being the worst translation of all time. It is a good example of a translation becoming a rewrite by trying to fit it in medieval feeling. Brain dead idiots wouldn't understand how the current English translation destroyed any trace of the cultural symbolism from Japanese mythology. The only misinformation anyone's spreading would be you trying to make it seem Japanese is harder than it is.

The translator++ I'm using is custom. It has a lot of rules and autocorrections set in it which I failed to mention. That being said there's very little changes that I need to make aside from context heavy stuff such as names and series lore. Japanese is not hard to translate and majority of hentai are Yotsuba level. The problems you highlighted is why an editor is involved, someone who can correct mistakes. I swear to god someone who has pass Genki 1 and 2 should be more than qualified to translate or edit.
But then again, MTL nowdays should be more than capable of handling basic stuff. Have you read the translations of classic hentai? Oh boy did it shock me how much of them are practically rewrites when I was finally able to read them in Japanese.

As for comparing Papago and Deepl, the reason why Papago is better at OCR (especially handwritten) than Deepl. If the app can't even get the input right, it has no chance getting the output right either.

I simply embrace the future. It will only get better and better. No hard feelings and keep up the good work. I know this because I do read your translations.

I don't translate anymore. I'm done with translating (Well aside from Miito Shido stuff). I moved on to lost media hunting now, specifically hentai. If you are aware of any bonus manga or shorts from famous works do PM me so I can put this in the database. A popular YouTuber is currently working with me and others to do a lost hentai iceberg.

By people who have never seen a legitimately awful translation, maybe, but my dude, I've seen Zero Wing. I've seen Zelda 2. I was there in the days where games would get mistranslations that imply that the way to do X is to do the opposite of X. Elden Ring wasn't even the worst translation in 2022, and saying it was the worst of all time is fucking laughable.

I don't think your grasp in the Japanese language is as good as mine. If you don't consider your average slice of life hentai to be Yotsuba level then all it shows me is that you need more experience. Japanese is not that hard. Yes translations can depend on context but not majority of them. If you spend a lot of time translating then all it's telling me is you're not that good. An average doujin/chapter of about 30 pages should only take 15 minutes or less . Any more than that and you're eiither bad at Japanese or wasting time. The future is here. AI will be replacing a lot of jobs and unfortunately that includes translation.
Typesetting takes more time than translation. If it's the opposite then you have serious problems. Sure Yotsuba doesn't use R18 language but there are only a handful for you to memorize. Are the standards lower now? Yotsuba's too high now as a benchmark?

It changed the meaning of one of the endings and basically mess up the lore of the game. Huge chunks of the lore have been rewritten. From Software games have their story told through in game lore, mistranslatio can easily fuck up someone's understanding of the story.
Some of the errors are so basic that it's shocking.
