People hate shit translations because garbled word salad kills the mood, and the text is important because if people didnt actually care what it said they'd just tread the original. Number 2 is translators rarely retranslate works, so having a shit translation makes it even more unlikely for a doujin to get a decent one. Having no translation is better than having a shit one, in the same way skipping a meal better than having spoiled food.
