The problem with MTL isn't necessarily an inherent quality issue. Some Mtls are passable. The real problem with their proliferation is that even the good ones encourage copycats, which then flood the translation scene. Additionally, translators are generally dissuaded by a translation already existing, they won't necessarily check to see whether it was a good one. They simply move on to something else that is untouched. So to can it dissuaded commissioners, who look at the existing translation and don't necessarily realize it is of poor quality because of translation and instead assume it is because the core work is bad, so they do not commission a replacement.

MTL is a scourge that is ruining the scene, and even if it reads as passable to you, you have to acknowledge the tacked on effects of it existing and how it negatively affects translations and translators as a whole.
