This is nice, and explores a territory I’m quite interested in.

However, I prefer how Sophie and Rose go about it (for the random reader: check out more Funkybun comics and find out who they are). I think Lily and Emil are proceeding too fast, considering that Emil seems to be way more insecure than Rose. To me, this speed manifests itself on two separate levels.

First, Emil (like myself, by the way) does not naturally have clear borders between loving intimacy and "just sex". I’m sure he’s honestly in love with Lily and does not want to weaken their bond, but saying that fact aloud is not guaranteed to stop him from having a heavy crush on a third party who is nice to him in bed. I’m afraid Lily and Cass, who appear to be free souls compared to Emil, do not quite understand what an emotional hurricane they are risking inside Emil’s head by cutting to the chase like this. Proceeding more slowly (think weeks or months) would not necessarily make things easier, but at least it would give Emil time to evaluate his feelings and realize what’s going on. (I do believe that all swingers and polys should be prepared to cope with unexpected heavy crushes, though. This point is not quite as dramatic to me as it may sound.)

Second, I’m not a big fan of asking for consent on every step. Sure, I think such questions must be permitted at any time, and in moderate amounts, they may even add to the feeling of intimacy and lust. But in this sex scene, the frequency is so high that it could make me stop and wonder, "Wait, why are we doing this in the first place?" I’d much prefer separate, long, intimate talks first, possibly cuddling in the nude: comparing sexual experiences, discussing desires, reflecting fears. Once I’m ready for action, I feel slightly overstepping my borders by accident is better than keeping my guard up. That’s the way to make me look and sound like Emil on page 24, anyway.

But maybe Emil is less adventurous than I am, and is actually turned on by the fact that there is a lot of communication going on, even by my standards (just look at this wall of text)?
