Let's stop with the whole "I don't read the language but I'm going to run this through an app" thing.

As a rule, we tend to not do things we're not qualified for - you wouldn't attempt to fly a plane without having the relevant expertise and/or certification, or fix your own pipes, or butcher a cut of meat... etc.

The same reasoning should apply to translations. Leave it to people who have the skills and expertise, and pay them for their time and effort, as I and many others have done.

There is 0 reason to post an MTL translation.
Literally anyone could just open up the raws with google lens and get the same results.
Please just keep this to yourself, the only thing this accomplishes is deterring people from giving it a proper translation as they might just see it's been "translated" already.

Beyond just the machine translation issues, the typesetting and general editing to make it all work is hideous. Mismatched tones and a poor font choice make this look like it was done in an afternoon in Paint.

Sometimes I think that people use MTL for the sole purpose of making actual translators angry, so they get the doujin translated properly out of spite.

It's almost like that's been correlating with the rise of crappy MTL translations. OK, here's a history lesson. Before you were old enough to know about E-Hental, people didn't often tend to like stepping on toes, so when a doujin/manga/CG Set was translated, no one else would do it. Of course, except for rare cases such as it being a commission, one group just beating the other to the punch and the other being too far to throw the effort away, or genuine differences in how they approached translations (more or less faithful to the Japanese text, T/Ns, etc, maybe even just translating the Afterword too) mostly because uploaders respected the effort each put in, and some are famous/infamous as a result.

What we're dealing with now is poor quality translations, this guy being too lazy to even claim this as translated (no [English] in gallery name is a major mistake, also means I'm surprised this is in "English") and this trend's on a kick because the E-Hentai contribution system is kinda poisoning the well now. What was done in good intentions with some subjective grievances in the past (I'm not a fan of people excluding content they don't like when uploading/updating galleries) is now a grabbag of people uploading mostly to get Gallery Points to get the crap they actually want or people GENUINELY thinking MTL is "good enough." It's a step beyond some guy uploading his own stash. Now it's people who want to tell themselves using Google Translate or DeepL means they can do translation work now. Which shits all over the actual work and effort that goes into translation. Actually knowing the context, the grammar, the honorifics and slang, and that's for starters. Typesetting, cleaning, editing and spellchecking, it takes fluency in both languages or a concentrated effort from multiple people to put out a good translation, and that applies everywhere, including "fucking hentai." Half the people doing these MTL translations can't even claim to be good at English.

The old guard is still here, for now, but honestly, I'm just expecting the quality of uploads to go down as time goes now. Starting now with just translations as people see crap translations but still think it's translated, so no need to do that gallery. But it'll probably start catching up to actual uploads. I can tell you gallery OP isn't going to scan anything or even grab something off DLSite, that's for damn sure.

The noobs are relying on MTL tools and are basically 'cheapening' the work of translation.

In the old days we almost never saw MTL translations. At worst we had some terribly mediocre translators (cough CGrascal, cough Laruffi) but bad translations were few and far between. And why was that, you ask? Because the translator respected other people's time and they wouldn't push out a turd just for the sake of pushing out content. Each release was meaningful and they actually take pride in publishing good content, and fixing up any mistakes that people point out.

Now we have noobs just pressing a few buttons on DeepL / translation tools on the Chrome addon store and then uploading it on a public gallery system and calling it a day. If you know the work you uploaded is shit and you are not going to fix it up, then you're just contributing to the ever growing pile of garbage that is building up.

E-hentai Server space isn't free. Bandwidth isn't free. (Tenboro takes donations) It's provided like people like myself who devote electricity and bandwidth to serve up these images. It actually costs money to host your shitty content.

I'm more surprised about the fact that the translator seems surprised about the reception of its "work"... I mean, there is SO MUCH MTL translations nowadays and that debate is still the same everytime that you would think that they absolutely know about it but just chose to not care and just have get their points.

But no, he is GENIUSLY angry that we kinda care about what we read, even if it's just "fucking fap material".
So no, if it was just about the drawing, i wouldn't need text... I read japanese dojins from time to time or just picture where you can guess the context ! Heck, ACTUAL porn may be even more exciting !
But if so many people read hentai and especially dojinshin, it's because they care about the context which greatly enhance how exciting everything is... So it needs to be properly conveyed.

It's a totally random thought, but allow me to overthink for a moment and wonder if a site that had a built-in DeepL/GTL integration, could solve this sort of problem.
That problem, as I see it, is that one camp may simply want to get a bare understanding of what is going on in their native tongue along with the art, while another rightly demands that the system be maintained for only quality, pro translation.
Maybe there would be something to autogenerated Danbooru-like "sticky notes" that leave all the incentive in the world for a group to create a proper, final release that lines up properly with the source material.
MTL is a tragedy, but so is the 96% of work that goes untranslated not circulating to those who might really like it and the artist. (Although, that is also due to poor language preference options.)
Of course I do not expect this site to implement such a complex feature, as I get a sort of "minimal" design philosophy/feel from it (not saying that's a bad thing at all)
I dunno, it's something to consider, as I've been working on an alternative software in my free time this summer.
By the way, everything I just proposed assumes that MTL uploaders aren't *****s trying to farm GP or flood the system out of spite. I'm also not defending people who waste everyone's time by not knowing English OR Japanese and making translations anyway, as well as the kind of assholes that really just want to advertise. That shit needs separate processing (site economics, structure, rules, moderation...?)
