@EDP - I see you obsessively posting this across AI galleries. No work is "stolen" by an AI - it looks at thousands (even millions) of images to figure out roughly how certain visual patterns form, and then it's trained to produce patterns in a particular style. In this case BIG TITTY GIRLS IN SKINTIGHT SHINY CLOTHES which is obviously the best style.

There's no one artist that makes images like this, because it's a mix of photos and illustrations that's unique to the AI.

@Wrongun no, it samples thousands of images and you just admit it at the end "its a mix of photos and illustrations". Tho that is not unique to AI. What is unique to AI is the large amount of sampled photos it can use as a source, instead of a few, and how instead of having a human deciding what's chosen and what's not it's just an algorithm picking averages within the sampled databases that have the right labels for the prompt.

It's a glorified image generator, more in common with your funny aging filters than real art or intelligence.

@wrongun - self perception fallacy, "because I didn't see or know it, it must not have existed". All the images are trained from data of an already made art, everything else is just a variation of it. The notion that no one artist makes images like this is hilarious.

This is part of the perception of these self claimed "AI artists" uses, that they are special, smart and making unique artworks that no one has ever done. At the end of the day, most AI art will create more pollution to make it hard to search for real hentai art etc. Just go to steam and start looking at new hentai games, already a number of them are using all AI art.

@weebcatto - what I meant was that nobody has made these specific images in this specific style. It's no more theft than a human who really digs Artist X imitating Artist X's style. Except in this case it's an amalgamation of Artists A through Z and beyond the alphabet by another million or so.

Now we come to the 'AI steals bits and pieces from other art' part of the debate. Here's why this is a bad argument.

1)AI is programmed to filter through all that other art and images in order to 'learn'. That's no different from how an art student does it. Even self taught artists do it. I get the concerns of plagiarism via AI. If anyone is blatenly running someone's original art through an AI then calling ot their own and worse making a profit off it then yes that person should be shut down. HOWEVER at this stage AI should be treated as an 'art student'. A student will copy their teacher until they find their own way of doing things. The over all idea for AI art is to get the AI to 'draw' from scratch like a real person artist. That can't happen unless tha AI learns like an art student does: observation, influence, repetition all the while trying to be original or finding one's own unique style.

2) What is exactly being copied and I don't mean in terms of possible plagiarism either. Is it the position of the bodies are in? Is it hair color or length? The clothes? Is this argument just nitpicking for the sake if nitpicking?

I don't dislike AI generated photos. They are enjoyable to look at, if you're willing to ignore some silly parts.

The way I see it is that some people, possibly artists, are worried that AI will take over their jobs since it can learn and do (more like imitate) what human can in mere months while a few years might be the minimal time needed for a human artist to finish their learning process. This is similar to the concern we had when the first industrial revolution came and machines began overtaking human's laborious jobs.
I can understand such concern and worry but AI is the inevitable step into our future. No one can stop its development.

What we should do is learn to control AI and make it work for us.

Not everything is a remix. And even is some thing are remix to some extent they usually not a straight paintrover or photobash of other people drawing or photos. But everything generative AI does is a remix. And you don't even now at what extent it remix. It can be a remix from 1 000 000 of images by some random ai magic. Or it can be a photobash of someone else's work for 95% with the face from someone else's work for last 5% & shaded to look more ore less realistic. Which 99% of this image is probably are due to Diffusion algorythm being prone to overfitting.

For example a human can paint a fanart (or trace, or do a study) of a someone else's character & sell 10 copies of at convention. Doesn't mean he should be able to open a store selling bootleg merchandise of other people trademark characters. And btw. he can't do this with a popular trademark character. Just like you can't resell your pirated images from here.
But if it's stealing IP from billions of people from all over the world at a scale they can't possibly track by themself. Then this is okay.

Piracy is making a free copy of digital products vs ai generation stealing authorship & credit from authors so that it can be resold at patreon etc.
See the difference? Free copy, but you can do a good thing & go buy one from author if you want, vs AI gneration with no way to know who the original author is with the promter usually profitting from the ip he stole.
