Obviously, the write/artist has never seen the show.

The write and creator of the show, Lauren Faust, has confirmed in interviews and online comments that the Ponies reproduce like any other mammal, by having sex.
Apparently, the creator of this comic miss that point. The show even makes jokes about it in later episodes when a couple of regular ponies gives birth to a Unicorn and Pegasus pair of twins.
