Hello! Here’s a new sequence featuring Ranni the Witch from indie hidden gem Elden Ring, you probably haven’t heard of it. As we all know, Ranni’s body is just a porcelain doll made after the image of her mentor. But as we also know, she just happens to be a powerful sorceress. I wonder what would happen if she used her magic to make her body more... “alive”? Surely no unexpected side effects could come from this 👀

If you want a lore justification for why this happened... I can think of one particular aspect.

Tarnished Archaeologist has a video about his theory on what makes an Empyrean and pointed out that all the female gods and demigods (Rennala doesn't count :P ) are Empyreans, and the only Empyrean that isn't female is rather... gender-ambiguous at times (more info about that coming in the DLC). TA proposes that the qualifications to become a god is the same as the function of women in medieval royalty, the capacity to birth and raise heirs to their kingdom, an inheritor to the divinity of the Elden Ring and the Greater Will. Therefore, part of the reason why Ranni slew her flesh was to break that connection to the Greater Will, to not become a puppet of forces beyond her control. With no flesh, she can provide no heirs, and therefore, she is worthless as a pawn and allowed to live in exile, only opposed when she starts making overt moves to steal the power of the Elden Ring from the Lands Between.

For this story... I'm going to make a guess that Ranni's unnatural pregnancy is not the result of Ranni screwing up, but divine intervention on the Greater Will's part. A Queen MUST have an heir, for a kingdom without an heir is a kingdom without a future. Ranni may have escaped her fate as a puppet, but she hasn't fully escaped her role as a God. The line of succession is secured, long live the queen and her moonlit dynasty.

Or, y'know, maybe this is just an accidental pregnancy story and it's not that deep. Who can say... :P
