A sabbatical year is usually a paid year off for university professors and other workers, one year of sabbatical for seven years worked.

Universities cooperate with each other so that a professor or teacher from America could do a years sabbatical in Tokyo and NOT go bankrupt, by taking advantage of the Tokyo university's facilities.

Once the year is over, tho, it's back home to your own university to return to teaching. Or they stop paying you.

Edit: and he likely misunderstood her comment about the body count. The bit of "...on my back," likely made him think that she was talking about actually *being on her back* while she sexually entertained a large number of men, rather than a body count of literal dead bodies of men she'd killed.
