What even is this plot?

Like the whole thing with Sakura being frustrated and wanting to fuck Naruto made sense, but what was that shit with Naruto where he suddenly looked different and randomly had a clone hanging out in the woods? The story called attention to it, but then never explained it or did anything with it.

It's weird.
