When I was in high school I read a book about rape. It was just a bunch of accounts told from the girls perspective about how she was raped and why that was rape and then a bit about the aftermath (how did she handle it, did she tell anyone, how did they handle it, etc.)

The one story was about a girl who was helping her college (American) football team as a manager or something. They were on a trip and one of the big line backers came into her room smelling of booze one night and without a word, just pushed her down, got on top of her and fucked her until he fell asleep on top of her. Now, she was in panic mode and froze. She didn't resist because this guy was huge and drunk and she was afraid he would beat her up, so she just let him do what he did without a fight. She ended up being stuck under him the whole night because she wasn't strong enough to push him off in his sleep.

She never really told anyone about it either until years later when she finally had the courage to confront him and tell him that he raped her. His response was just, "yeah, I know... so what?" It had been years and she had no case against him.

If the author put a bit more fear into FMC's thoughts, then I would find this a rather realistic scenario. The fact that she just went along with the gorilla is not a surprise to me. He could really hurt her if he wanted to.
