My thinking was that Noa was running late and he was referring to the meeting time being 5 minutes ago, and the Japanese dictionary I was using said 前 meant "previous" or "ago" - even has an example sentence using it in reference to time: 三年前 = 3 years ago. I suppose it's a contextual thing?

I'm really not sure you should be jumping into translation if 前 and its use(s) are causing you trouble. 前 has like 15+ different definitions lol You could ask a more experienced TL/JP speaker to go over your scripts, if possible.
