@Manga God - You cant stop this. Your "entire community" didn't bother to translate this for several years. Stop lying about "good translation" is just around the corner. Some works just never gonna be translated. While this translation is awful. Its still a translation. And i can somewhat understand what is going on. No translation or bad translation - I'll choose bad translation.

@Viktorok I completely agree with the rebuttal to the "good translation" thing. It just seems like a dumb point. I see the reasoning, but like, c'mon. How long does a comic have to sit untranslated until we can stop saying "EVENTUALLY someone would have translated this, but NOW they won't because YOU did MTL!"

Especially considering that MTL is literally a different category of thing compared to a real translation, and I agree it should have its own tag here for that reason. If a translator wanted to translate a work, I sincerely think the idea that they might be deterred because a shitty MTL already exists is just kinda stupid. In fact that might motivate them instead! That's what it did to me at least, and I didn't even PLAN to get into translation! The MTL was so terrible it literally made me learn a new skill just to do this artist justice. (Their name is Hangeshō btw, show them some love)

What I completely disagree with, and I believe this IS a legitimate point against uploading MTL: I don't think a bad translation is better than no translation. Maybe sometimes, if the work is so great that even if the TL is dogshit you can still enjoy it and go away thinking "damn I just wish someone made a proper TL for that one". But there is a very real risk that people will just leave with the impression that the work is just bad, even subconsciously, and it becomes hard to tell what parts of the badness are part of the translation or the work itself. That would taint the reputation of a potentially pretty good artist, and ACTUALLY reduce the chance of that or even FUTURE works being considered for translation!

And as much as you seem to hope that eventually MTL will just get to a level where it completely replaces human translators... we are not at that point, we will not get to that point until AI is sentient and understands society natively, and MTL is almost always dogshit. Unless the person making it knows enough of the languages to make it work properly, but in that case it almost leans towards just being a machine-ASSISTED real translation. And if the quality is actually better, that should reflect in the rating too.
