I'm of the opinion that if a comic has been out for more than a year without a translation, I'd rather have a machine translation than no translation at all. As long as it makes sense (even if there are some mistakes), and the grammar is correct, I'm cool with MT. That said, this translation is dog shit. I'm of the opinion that if you're fine with MTL, you should just install an MTL plugin into your comic reader and spare the rest of us.

Unlike human translations, which require a skilled and motivated human to spend several hours and produce a work of varying quality, and therefore makes sense to archive, an MTL works instantly, requires no motivation, and has a consistent quality. Nobody generates random numbers and then publishes it, since everyone can just generate their own. So why would you publish an MTL release that everyone can just generate themselves?

All you're really doing is wasting storage space that could be used for something more meaningful, and training an entire generation of ESL (English as a Second Language) people to talk like dyslexic retards. I hope you're proud of yourself, because nobody else is.

If people would at least edit the MTL slob before publishing it. And no, any current MTL is still a good distance away from being comparable to someone with decent knowledge of original and target language. It might be marginally better than the "I don't know original or target language but decided to make a translation that's worse than MTL somehow" guys, but that's it. It still fails quite horribly when it comes to translations requiring context, which Japanese to English usually needs a lot of to function. And yes, MTL tag would be appreciated. If I want MTL, there's enough options that don't actively work against a proper translation being done.

I know MTL and AI art becoming even more widespread is inevitable. That genie is not going back in the bottle. Even some professional artists and publishers in Japan are shifting to human/AI hybrid translations and there's certainly a demand for it which is partly fueled by bad localizations and the related drama surrounding that. It's just frustrating when someone uses MTL and then can't be bothered to edit and proofread the end result sufficiently before sharing it with others. If someone personally wants this level of MTL there's plugins for it as others noted.

There's a good reason why a company like Mantra offers both AI translation and language learning services. It's not enough to just use the former without a human editing.
