This is the color reprint for the Heavy Metal magazine release of November 1979, December 1979 and January 1980 (which I still need to complete the series. If anyone can scan it in, I would appreciate it!)

Thanks for "trucapo" for posting these:

"Heavy Metal November 1979" located here: https://e-hentai.org/g/2747534/77ff359386/
"Heavy Metal December 1979" located here: https://e-hentai.org/g/2747535/3132ef3a3d/

UPDATE: I found the complete volume, but it is in "black and white". Until I can find the "January 1980" issue of HEAVY METAL, this will have to do to complete the (heh heh) "tail".

would you believe that it was ROWLF that eventually led to Hayao Miyazaki to create NAUSICAA OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND? In a similar situation between George Lucas not being able to obtain the rights to FLASH GORDON (which then pushed him to create his own sci-fi myth hodgepodged from everything he grew up on, from Akira Kurosawa, John Ford westerns, musicals, French comics like VALERIAN and even his own movies like AMERICAN GRAFFITI), Miyazaki wanted to break free from anything Disney related and reached out to Richard Corben to do an animated adaptation of his comic. The deal eventually fell through when Miyazaki indicated that he wanted to soften the story, so Richard Corben backed out. The preliminary designs (such as the manish dog protecting the princess you might have seen in some of the NAUSICAA sketches) is what led to him creating his own story.

You can tell he borrowed the tank design from ROWFL for the Temeculan tanks.
