There's a series I haven't thought about in a very long time. Shame that most of the early similar webcomics never finished. El Goonish Shive is like the only one still going I'm aware of.

This is amazing, I hadn't read this comic since the mid 10s I think, thank you. Do you by any chance know where to find those little transformations that played in the site back when it was flash? You know the ones that where next to the donate buttom and the more people donated the more the character changed.
