You do know TLs are commission, and thus, money-driven, right? I agree that MTL is simply... Not great, to say the least, but, to say that they lower chances of getting a TL is dumb. If you want a proper TL, find a group, and commission them. They weren't going to do it for free anyway.

@lenzen that is actually false. Translations like this have been shown to lower the chance of a proper one over and over again throughout the years. And no, not all groups that do translations do it only on commission.

As someone else said the presence of an MTL significantly lowers the chances of a good TL ever being done, unless the work is really really really popular/anticipated. It has been proven over and over.

Not all TLs are commissions - passion projects will likely get done regardless, but for stuff that's less popular, someone is far less likely to pony up the cash for a good TL when a "readable" MTL exists.

Patiently waiting for the day that the admins finally think about the site's health/reducing wasted bits on the network and ban people who only ever upload MTLs and seem unapologetic about it. All MTL galleries should be purged or hidden in a special category that people can look at marked "Re-translation needed" or something like that.

Tired of clicking on a new Eng gallery only to find out it's barely readable and not erotic or fun at all because the english is so shit. Literally wasted bits that no one values.

The only time this is acceptable/excusable is if it's the authors own translation that they did themselves or paid for. Still sucks but I can at least respect their decision as the original author.

This doujin is five years old; to say "oh great, now nobody will want to pick this up!" is just coping, considering nobody was already picking it up in the first place. Ironically enough, the most translator attention doujins in these situations get is from the people correcting MTL whenever it pops up.

Don't just wait on someone else to do it for you, be what you wanna see and support the translators by commissioning them. Between artists being too uncaring/unaware to contact translators already interested enough in their doujins to translate them, and people like Takahashi wanting to pull up the ladder behind them so nobody else from the scene can succeed, the scanlation scene deserves all the support it can get.

Don't get me wrong, trying to disguise MTL as your own work is still disingenuous and immoral. It's disrespectful to translators working their ass off, and you're a waste of air if you do it.
