"Anime" style art gets a bad rap from the "serious" artist since it is a simplified version of a realistic depiction (referred to as stylized).

However art is art and techniques will always have some use within the same medium (in this case pictures). Anyone who can not see at least a few
merits in any style (even Cal-arts) is someone who is rarely worth listening to.

For us we like how with Anime style it floats on a line where if you put on extra effort it approaches a feeling of a stylized realism, yet if you want to play with the more
extreme " Cartooney" elements you can dip back and forth without becoming jarring. In our opinion of course.

In my opinion, general anime-style art is actually a good stepping stone towards a realistic art style, since it tends to be more detailed than cartoons but less detailed than realism. Having said that, I generally find realistic art to be unappealing. It's certainly impressive on a technical level, but it often feels like I'm just looking at an imitation of something I could just go outside and see in real life. The existence of photography also doesn't help.

Personally, I've always liked anime-style art because it can stretch realism to a point where I don't associate it with real-world analogs.

Cheating sucks, rapists deserve to suffer, and bestiality is revolting. But plug those into a stylized anime-style and I'll vibe with some of them (not quite all).

the idea that anime style are "bad" is because beginners tends to jump into drawing stylized right away and ignoring fundamentals.
As long as you're practicing life drawings at the same time you're fine. Infact if you're only drawing in realistic style you'll find it hard finding a job that isn't teaching.

I used to beleive teachers who said shit about anime but in my older age I actually think anime is one of the greatest art styles ever (when done right). it takes a lot of skill to simplify something very complex such as the human anatomy. look at a well drawn anime/manga. look at the perspective, anatomy, gesture. its mind blowing. I think it can actually be more beneficial to learn from anime since its easier to digest.
