p2 INTRODUCTION

Hello, SMAC here.

My newest book is a collection of images from the Roshutsu Otome series that I'd previously posted on the creator support platform Fantia.
I've been on Fantia for about two and a half years now, and to be honest, at first I didn't really know what to do and at what pace.
I've received plenty of comments and support as I've continued to post colour illustrations, rough drawings, and random musings.
But I very much wanted to see the pictures I'd worked on in a bound book form, as an analogue person at heart, and so I decided to compile them into an offset printed book.

Also, this year marks 15 years since I published my first Roshutsu Otome work! (I'm still a bit surprised at that number... lol), so it's also a commemorative book of sorts.
I've been able to continue this long not only because of my own desire to draw, but also thanks to the motivation I receive from all the people who look forward to my new work and who have purchased my previous works.

So there we have it.

p16-17 ~The Making of Otome Picture~

1:
On these pages, I show you how I go about making colour drawings for Roshutsu Otome.
First of all, the characters and backgrounds are drawn separately and combined on my Mac.
In the early days of Otome, many drawings of people and backgrounds were done on the one page, but when considering ease of work and the quality of the finished product, this is the way to do it.
It is also easier to create difference images.

2:
Next, the flat colours are painted.
The colours are saved in my palette, so I can paint the characters without thinking too hard about particulars.
It's a fun moment when not only the face and hair are coloured, but also the cheeks and nipples. (^^)

3:
At this point, I switch the software to Painter and start the detailed colouring work.
After deciding on a light source, I use the marker tool to get a rough idea of the shading.
However, if the assumption is too vague, it will be tricky to correct later when you wonder "Hmm, did I make any mistakes...?".
I particularly enjoy filling in the shadows around the boobs, navel and belly button.
Also, when shadows cast on the ground are finally drawn in, it really makes you feel like you're there, which is also fun.

4:
I make a variety of enhancements like extending the colour boundaries with the water drop tool and adding accents with the airbrush tool, until I get to a point where I think "This looks good".
If I put too much detail into shading the body here, it throws off the balance with the more manga-like face, so I try to keep it in moderation.
Also, this panel takes place on a rainy night, so I added shiny highlights to the skin at the end, which was really addictive and fun.
I also painted the ground to make it look wet from the rain.

5:
Now that the basic parts have been painted, it's time to move on to the finishing touches.
Here I add rain, add more detail to the ground and walls, and add dialogue and speech bubbles.
The background shouldn't distract too much from the main characters, so I kept the background details modest.
Even so, when I look at it now, the wall on the right side looks too bland, and could have used some concrete bricks... (a frequent thought... (^^;).

And that's basically how each panel gets made.
Oh, and I know it's a little late for this, but this masturbation panel is from Hirabayashi-san's lewd big breast doujin.

p49 POSTSCRIPT

So, that brings us to the end.
Unlike my usual offset books, this time I decided to include colour illustrations, rough drawings, and whatever else came to mind, which in a way made it a very self-indulgent book, lol.
I hope you enjoy the liveliness of the various characters.

Also once again, Fantia gave me a place where I could interact with readers when events weren't held due to the coronavirus, which helped me a lot in many ways.
I'm also working on the next Otome story, so I hope to post updates on that in the future on Fantia.
