I.R.B.M., an ancronym for Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missile, is an experimental light novel work that follows the exploits of Sheryl Formosa and Gije Zaral from Space Runaway Ideon (1980). Published two months before Ideon went off the air, this light novel is one of the earliest works of the P.L.O or Perfective Latent Organization's Jun Goto (後藤順). Jun situates both characters as personalized interpretations of their own merit, demonstrating the existence of the head canon for a wildly popular series at the time. Per Goto's words in I.R.B.M.'s forward, "Ide - When we finished watching episode 5 of Ideon - Infinite Power, The Legend of Ide - we saw a story. We thought that no one would understand it. Then, when we finished watching episode 24, we encountered it. As time passed, the story became real."

The story follows Sheryl and Gije's tumultuous relationship as members of the Solo Ship and the increasingly perplexing activities of the Ideon itself. After Sheryl invokes the Ideon's Wave Leader Gun and is ultimately killed, her spirit is ultimately removed from her vaporizing body by Gije. As a spirit, she exists as an extant form of life and witnesses the fall and deaths of her comrades as well as the increasingly perilous situation of the Buff Clan, all while being unable to comfort Gije. Sheryl and Gije's relationship is depicted as being somewhat toxic and highly sexual, though overall, their relationship is ridiculed, condemned and looked down upon all the same.

There is an additional short story about the fall of the Solo Ship itself, where Bes Jordan sends Karala Ajiba down to a planet in a safety within a life pod, though its alluded that she doesn't make it and that he dies in vain. This could very well be considered to be Jun's earliest novel before the establishment of the P.L.O. ever took place.
