I don't mind the downer ending so much as how it felt like an unsatisfying resolution. The tone shifts to being particularly dark and bitter and lucario just realizing that he's a piece of shit in the end doesn't satisfy narratively, to me. Wish I knew of a better way to end it than some trite 'and they all lived happily ever after' BS.
