Why do scenes 40-52 and 96-109 alternate between machines and tentacles? Is it some sort of hallucination?

Some images, for example #42, are not used in game.

This gallery seems to be extracted from game-data and converted, but not ordered( in oreder of extracted file-name).
for example, #16- are used in one of the last events, and the last images of blue heroine in gallery mode.
