I recently acquired this title among four other books that belonged to M since the late 1970s. He hadn't read them in over 40+ years but had them to his person, and during a call agreed to part with them so long as I share them with you all. This particular circle was recognized by Sunrise and Studio II's staff, whereas in this particular issue, they were already on to Ideon. Another issue is mentioned to be slated, but it seems as if the group disbanded shortly after Gundam's broadcast was over.
Zaku or Zaku II received an interesting amount of readership during its time, and the FC seemed to have lasted well into the mid 1980s. The books I now own span from 1979 to 1981, though future volumes were noted in the newsletters and were subsequently published into 1983. The group appears to have been from the Nara Prefecture and comprised of over 180 members from the Ikomadaiminami neighborhood of Ikomu. Members would gather for activities at the Oomiwa shrine as noted.
Most of the coverage discusses the plans for the then upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam compilation film.
Zaku / Zaku II was relatively popular as a fanzine as it received several mentions in OUT magazine for its comprehensive information, interviews and layouts.
If you'd like to learn additional information about M, this publication and additional info on how I went about acquiring them, I recently transcribed an interview:
