Dionysus isn't the one who reported the affair between Ares and Aphrodite, it was Helios. Nothing romantic between Ares and Dionysus in the mytho, even in the game Hades. A record of his transformation is a lion, along with a phantom bear. Dionysus turned Ampelos' dead body into first grapevine and created wine from his blood.

So the tragedy and the "happy ending" don't make sense to me.
