Yes, that's exactly it. I've been around long enough (since the days of a.s.s.tg on Usenet) that I've seen how the kink has morphed with the sub-culture as a whole.

In the beginning it was mostly transvestism, because it was something men could do in private at minimal expense.

Then it was mostly autogynephilia, as medical procedures improved and better results became more publicly visible.

And now, since the sub-culture has gone "queer" and the kink has to stay ahead of the sub-culture in order to remain a kink, it's mostly sissy/femdom/humiliation. Simply being "trans" isn't remarkable anymore. It isn't special. Now they need the psychodrama.

(And there are also more man-hating women in the sub-culture, as there are in the real-world publishing industry. But that's a whole separate discussion.)

Of course there always has been and always will be a mix of the three, I'm just describing how the proportions have changed and why.

Yeah, I don't always mind when the Gender Bending is against the person's will but having it be so mean kind of takes the fun out of it for me, especially when there's mind control involved.

I like it more when the person gender bent becomes more feminine on their own, without being forced and bullied into it and eventually decides to stay that way even if there's a way back.

Like, for example, as MagicalJuko said, Steven can shape-shift so for this, Steven could have become a woman via shapeshifting out of curiosity and tried it out and became more lewd and stayed that way on their own.
