Yamano Minoru (山野 実), who went by the penname Aoki Sami (あおきさみ), was a member of the doujin circle Humbert. As an illustrator, Sami was very well liked and energetic and was a rising star in the realm of Humbert's numerous lolicon & bishoujo imprints. However, on September 14th of 1982, at approximately 12:50 p.m., Aoki got caught in what was believed to be a riptide or hightides and drowned during a trip with his Humbert friends. 32 of them met at Atagawa Beach in Higashiizu Town and were attending Nihon University, of which they were a part of the Manga Research Club. He accidentally fell into the deep waters and was found dead 20 minutes later by one of his friends - there were waves of 1 to 1.5 bu high (around two to three meters) on the beach. He was only 21 years old.
Members of Humbert produced this particular volume as a memorial to their late friend. There are drawings and unpublished works of Sami's as well as very heart felt, heart wrenching letters written to him and about him as a friend, artist and confidant. Published on November 23rd of 1982.
