Obligatory fuck MTL.

Originally, I wanted to work on yonayona's previous work as it especially resonated with me, but that got rough TL'd, so I gave up on it. The timing was right around this work's release, and I knew I wanted to work on this, so I soon after made a post on the JP gallery saying I was working on it. You can only imagine my disappointment to see that I had been sniped once again on a yonayona work, and once again by a "rough TL." This time, it was even worse being MTL AI slop. This was already an entire month since I started working on this. Yeah, I know maybe I worked too slowly, but I do have a life, and 80+ pages is longer than anything I've ever worked on before, so the cleaning, redrawing, and typesetting took me a lot of time. I don't even know why I'm trying to offer excuses. Why does an MTL release have to make *me* feel guilty of being too slow? This is such a backwards reality, and I shouldn't feel as bad as I do.

But enough wallowing. As far as this release goes, I'm quite happy with the end result, and I had a good time working on it. I had never used more than 5-6 fonts on a release before, but this one really took the cake with over 20+ fonts in addition to hand-drawn fonts. Yonayona used a lot of different fonts for character voices, which prompted me to follow suit, even if some of the changes were incredibly subtle. He also had a constant crayon effect on his sfx, which was horrible for me to emulate. I tried 5 different ideas before settling on a brush mask. I think it looks kinda meh but it was the best of the various options I tried. This is an area of improvement for next time that I plan to keep in mind (tl;dr - need to learn lettering for next time).

Before I started working on this, I already had a "general rule of thumb" where if there was text in a bubble, I would translate it. I really ate my own shit with that general rule because there were a LOT of sfx in text bubbles in this release. I almost gave up on the rule, but somehow I managed to pull through. I don't want to think about sfx for a while...

I think my understanding of cleaning and redrawing has slowly improved from release to release, and I still feel like I've very shit at it, but I think it's because I notice all the minor things at 500% zoom, and it's frankly unnoticeable at normal zoom. People also read galleries at 1280px on this site, so I really shouldn't dwell deeply on that shit. I'm taking a look at the cover again as I write this, and yeah, it looks good.

Some TL stuff. I went with "bitch" for メス (mesu) for most instances, but there are times where I felt "female" was the right call. I'm personally a "sow" hater, so I'd never use that but that's a topic for another time. I had the title as "NTR-ing Prick" for the longest time because I wasn't sure how to properly make cuckold into an adjective that made sense, and I'm still not sure "cuckolding" was the right move. I wanted to modify "prick" to keep the parallel between "male" and "female" or in this case, "prick" and "bitch". Believe me, I spent like 3 days going back and forth between different ideas before settling on this title. I think "cuckolder" is definitely the wrong call as that term would refer to the person cheating in the relationship and not the "bull." And I didn't want to use "bull" because I feel like the "bull" in cuckolding is usually not the main focus of the kink. Realistically "netori" is more akin to like "the stealer", but you can already tell how awful that would be to work into the title. In short, cuckolding and NTR are similar fetishes, but there are many nuances that just don't work for a 1:1 translation. Go figure.

For メスナール (mesunaaru), I went with Femtanyl, which I thought was an extremely clever find. I really patted myself on the back for that one until I found out that some electronic duo is named that. I had already typeset it onto the boxes at this point, so I didn't feel like changing it. Don't sue me.

For the final page, Ai switches from おれ (俺, ore) to 私 (watashi) which is again, very difficult to translate properly. I went with a girly font change, and I think it gets the idea across quite well. I couldn't quite find the right font I wanted, so believe it or not, that final set of girly text is using 3 different fonts. I think my brain has become mush after this work.

For now, soft plans on working on yonayona's next work because someday I'd like to not get sniped on yonayona. I plan on working on hitoi's next work as well. Other than that, no real plans.

even though the readers literally do not deserve good quality translations anymore given their propensity to happily eat slop and ask for seconds and thirds, you should still keep it up. also come hang out in my group's discord, we've got a ton of grumpy old scannies who would be happy to give you advice on stuff

Fuck MTL indeed. I've worked on some TLs as CLRD before and I get why it takes time if you're doing things properly.
There are so many details that go into a good translation that projects can easily drag on for months if you only have a little time to work on them each day after work.
MTL has lowered the bar for what a translation is so much to the point where you feel relieved to see something was even typeset by a person at all, let alone semi competently, and that's not even mentioning the quality of the translation itself.
You cannot hate AI enough.

But anyway for my perspective as a reader, whenever I notice something is clearly AI with its poor wording and lack of context understanding, I quit reading, so even if there is a [rough translation], it's still worth making a proper TL, because I'd be surprised if I was the only one.

Thank you for your service! As someone who once had aspirations of TLing works by great artists that I respect, I whole heartedly agree ー Fuck MTL. It's heartening to see you out here doing such great work though! I'm hoping once life settles down a bit I can hop back into the scene. Still super new and have only done one TL myself, but I'll stand with you against the tsunami of absolutely horrendous MTL garbage. Holy mother of based. I really hate NTR, but this one was so good. To be honest, the girl deserves what happened to her and worse.
