The Singularities Chaldea dealt with were rarely ever simple.
Even the smallest distortions in Proper Human History had a tendency to become troublesome sooner or later. This particular one, however, was supposed to be nothing more than a training exercise.
A small forest. No particularly dangerous enemies. No major fluctuations in the Saint Graphs.
Just a quiet Singularity where Fujimaru Ritsuka could put into practice the training methods Sanzang had recommended.
At least, that had been the plan.
Fujimaru was making his way through the forest when he encountered Medea Lily.
The young Caster looked unusually distressed.
Apparently, one of the Servants had stolen a precious treasure from her room and fled into the Singularity before she could catch them.
Naturally, Fujimaru offered to help.
After all, recovering a stolen treasure and bringing the culprit to justice sounded considerably exciting than the training he had been doing.
And so, what had begun as a simple training session quickly turned into a hunt through the forest.
Back in Chaldea, however, Mash Kyrielight was becoming increasingly worried.
The training had gone on for considerably longer than expected.
Fujimaru's vital signs were still within safe parameters, but they were constantly fluctuating. Nothing dangerous enough to trigger an emergency response, yet strange enough to suggest that he was pushing himself harder than he should.
Mash eventually decided that someone needed to check on him.
Erice was the one sent after him.
Following Fujimaru's signal into the Singularity, Erice made her way through the forest, occasionally checking the readings on her equipment.
The signal remained stable.
Fujimaru was alive. His vitals were safe.
But there was something odd about the readings.
They were constantly changing.
"Seriously... What are you doing, Fujimaru?"
Erice sighed and continued following the signal.
Eventually, the trees began to thin.
Ahead of her stood the entrance to a cave.
The signal was coming from inside.
Erice stopped at the mouth of the cave and stared into the darkness.
"...Of course."
If Fujimaru had somehow gotten himself into trouble, this was exactly the sort of place she'd expect to find him.
She took a breath, tightened her grip on her weapon, and stepped inside.
Whatever was happening in this Singularity, she had a feeling Fujimaru wasn't simply training anymore.
